Maritza Cornejo Bean is a classically-trained sculptor and teacher with 30 years of experience. She received a BFA from the School of Arts, University of Chile, and is a recipient of the coveted Friend of Art Scholarships in Santiago, Chile. Afterward, she worked as a teacher at the Experimental Artistic Lyceum in Santiago, Chile for 5 years. In Venezuela she lived for 6 years, working at the Federico Brandt Institute and Taller Escuela Arte y Fuego. Later she opened her own sculpture studio “Taller Uno” dividing her time between her sculpting and giving classes.
In 2003 she became a popular sculpture teacher at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, FL and the Lighthouse Art Center in Jupiter, FL. She married Terry Bean and moved to Little Rock in 2009 and is a member of the Arkansas Sculpture Guild. She has freely given her time to teach underprivileged children the magic of sculpting in several countries. She splits her year with Little Rock, AR and West Palm Beach, FL.
Maritza Cornejo Bean’s work is held in public and private collections in United States, Chile, and Venezuela.
Artist Statement
Our Sculptures are a reflection of life and world perception. We are not philosophers, we’re just people that love to work with our hands and express what we feel and think about life and society. My husband and I work happily as a team creating sculptures for public spaces and private commissions.
